How Octodius collects, uses, and protects your data.
Last updated: August 6, 2026
Octodius ("Octodius", "we", "us") is operated by Matthew Dhlamini, based in South Africa. This policy explains what data we collect when you use octodius.com, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
Account data. If you create an account, we store your email address, full name, and an encrypted password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your password in plain text).
Content you submit. If you apply to become a Creator and are approved, we store the posts and projects you write or upload, including any images or files you attach.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address with our email provider, Resend, to send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
Purchases. If you buy a paid project, checkout is handled entirely by PayPal — we never see or store your card or bank details. We keep a record of the purchase (project, amount, date, and PayPal's transaction reference) so we can confirm your access.
Comments and bookmarks. If you comment on a post or bookmark content, that activity is linked to your account.
Technical and error data. We use Sentry to automatically capture errors that happen in your browser while using the site, which can include your IP address, browser/device information, and the page you were on when the error occurred. This is used only to find and fix bugs.
Local storage. We use your browser's local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember your theme preference (light/dark) and to autosave drafts you're writing in the Creator editor. This data stays on your device.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run third-party advertising or tracking scripts on this site.
We share the minimum data necessary with the following processors, each of whom has their own privacy practices:
| Service | Purpose | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, database, file storage | Account and content data |
| Resend | Newsletter and transactional emails | Your email address |
| Sentry | Error monitoring | Technical/browser data when an error occurs |
| PayPal | Payment processing | Purchase amount and your PayPal account details (handled entirely on PayPal's side) |
We do not otherwise sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep records (e.g. purchase history) for legal or accounting purposes.
Depending on where you're located, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. This includes rights under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, for visitors in the EU/UK, the GDPR.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@octodius.com. You can also update your name and email directly from your Account page, and delete your own draft content from the Creator editor.
Octodius is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

This policy describes our current data practices in plain language and isn't a substitute for legal advice specific to your situation.
